Is it going to turn violent?
Some people watch the ferment at town-hall meetings in America today and worry that another Oklahoma-style atrocity is brewing. A few protesters are waving placards wishing for Mr Obama’s death. Others are ostentatiously wearing firearms outside his rallies. A recent report by the Southern Poverty Law Centre describes an uptick in the number of “Patriot” militia groups since Mr Obama’s election and frets that some could turn violent.
One should not exaggerate such threats. The Secret Service does not let gun-wielding protesters too near the president. And the vast majority of people who visit crazy websites will never hurt anyone. But there is no cause for complacency, either. Politicians should tone down the rhetoric. Protesters should read some history before making Hitler comparisons. Talk-show hosts should stop pretending that paranoid nitwits are asking reasonable questions. If people are continually told that their government is plotting against them, a few may decide to fight back. And as Lee Harvey Oswald showed, even one man with a violent sense of grievance can do a lot of harm.

When Obamanomics gets rolling and unemployment goes to 15-18% the right wing and the anarchists will find common cause and lots of willing followers.
Obama should do the right thing, refuse all further calls from the left wingers, rather he should host some followers of Austrian economics and use their ideas.

Whenever a group of people feel that change is going to threaten them, which is the case almost across the board, some of them will become so frightened that they go out of all proportion. There is really nothing we can do about human nature. Changing the rhetoric won't really help, since these people are not motivated by logic. All we can do is be watchful and try to stop them if they start something.

its all about racism and discrimination, but many close their eyes and try to ignore the fact that most of the so called conservatives are racist and the ones called liberals are also (most of them) abusers of the systems , and those in between can't do much about it for (unfortunately) these types of people get too involved in the issues that go against them and they don't like to be more involved in solving problems intelligently, rather then violently;
so the moderate citizens are always suffering more then the liberals and the conservatives and finally we are the ones that fix the problems to the closest of both ends but then again that's not good for nobody either.
In the meantime USA is spinning downwards, thanks to people in the radio and other media acces that abuse their time in making others be against each other for the sake of greed.

I suspect that most of the protests occur in states and cities that voted predominantly for the republican candidate in 2008.
In Los Angeles there was none of these problems we see in these other areas.
If my theory is right, the red states would have the most protestors, the most media attention. In the blue states, there will be more support for Obama and his reforms.
I think you saw the republicans who were carrying the guns, not the democrats.

some people take things to far so yes it is possible. the congress and obama need to pay attention to how large of a number of people are protesting this healthcare bill. most of the protest is not the flashy stuff that makes the news but petitions or letters to congress or being at the town hall meeting without making it to national news coverage. the best way to keep the protests from increaseing or turning violent is to listen to them and withdraw this health care bill and do a complete rewrite of it. if we are going to do reform then please do it right not do it fast or even just do it but do it right and do something that people can understand and are willing to accept.

Just goes to show how unhappy people are with the politicians, including Obama.

This is nothing new. Personally, I thought the behavior of protestors was far worse in the GWB years
