On yahoo classic chess, how do I block the advertising? The ad banner always makes me lag!?

Update:

Long John Silver, yahoo could easily find a way to stay effective and still advertise. Stop playing the good guy, good informer role, obviously you have know idea what you are talking about.

I have had the same problem, not only with chess, but other games too. It seems more severe with chess at the moment, but that may be because one particular ad is being shown there.

    My soloutions are:

    1. Once you have started/joined a game, then minimize the 'lobby' window. Even this fails sometimes.

    2. Use one of the backdoors to go to Yahoo. I use Shove-it ( http://www.shove-it.com/yahoo-chess ) or backdoors to ( http://www.backdoors.to/yahoo/chess/ )

Each of these sites have a page which lists all the rooms available for a particular game, with the option to change your 'alias number', should you need to.

In some ways they are more convenient than the normal Yahoo Chess Games page, even when the room is NOT full, as all rooms are listed on 1 page, so no need to change from Social to Intermediate etc.

Also, they will get you into a room which is already full (up to a maximum of about 250 players, depending on the game), which is handy if you are disconnected in the middle of a game: enables you to get back in to a room even if it has 100+ players.

Why are these backdoors better? Because, although they still have some ads, they are usually different (and non lag-causing) from the ones on the normal Yahoo lobby page: at least that has been my experience.

There is even a backdoor site which promises to remove ALL Yahoo ads. I forget its name, and when I tried it, the site was temporarily down; but you can find it easily enough by searching for 'Yahoo Games Backdoors'.

    3. I recently had to re-install windows on my computer. When I did so, I didn't bother downloading the latest (or any) Flash player, in the hope that there would be no way some of these ads would play: seems to have helped somewhat.

I agree with you that the excessive content in some of these ads are inexcusable. I am sure when Y! Games started they weren't as complex: showing a picture is one thing, but downloading a whole movie causes the fan on my computer to run continuously while some of these ads are running (simply due to the ammount of information being processed), and that can't be good for me or for Yahoos business.

The nightmare ad for me was the BT ad last year: the lag it caused was so bad, it would take me several minutes just to be able to close that particular window.

The only ways available to block the unwanted advertising would also block the chess game. Yahoo! offers their services to us cheapskates for free, and they have to get people to advertise on their site so they can make the money they need to keep the free Website up and running and pay those dividends to their shareholders. - LJS

to respond to your question: sure, it offends me, if IAMs is in fact killing animals. i'm constantly happy to work out people performing lawfully to alter issues that are incorrect. i'm hoping you have greater useful success with YA with regards to animal rights than I did with its fostering non secular bigotry. perhaps we would desire to constantly substitute letters :) i've got self belief that in case you undesirable-mouth a sponsor that your question isn't long for this international. yet i'm going to participate. I never heard that approximately IAMs.
