What Do You Think of This? Are you as upset as I am?
I am bored a lot at work, so I read the dailymail newspaper from the uk and when I went on the website today I came across this article
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1208913/Th...
So, does anyone else feel the same way I do about this? I think it is insulting to the dogs, horrible way to be an artist and just disgusting the way they are portrayed. Dogs are dogs, not art. I used to have poodles, and I can tell you that If I tried to do anything like that to them, they would have had a fit on me!! Dont those dogs look like they are unhappy? Or am I the only one that thinks this is a form of animal abuse? It may not be as bad as beating or fighting dogs, but come on now.
I do agree that it is not a big form of abuse..not like beating or anything, but having all that stuff hanging off a dog like peacock feathers and a helmet, you know the dog isnt comfortable. I have seen a lot worse, but i just think this is ridiculous.

I think the traditional poodles with the shaved balls of fluff everywhere look really odd. They're beautiful dogs, but not when you start shaving them.

I am not going to be particularly popular but hear goes.
People dress their dogs up for halloween. Ridiculous? Yes. Abusive? no.
Kids draw on their dogs with markers, etc. I don't think the dogs feel a loss of dignity.
How many show dogs with coats have to be specially groomed, etc? No, it's not the same as having ornaments hanging on them but how different is is from a dog getting a harness put on to drag a cart, wagon or sled? I have a rigged Radio Flyer Wagon that I make my dog pull with my two 30 pound toddlers in it. The helmet was the dog's own hair, I didn't see anything that was heavy. Most of the ornaments appeared to be light weight plastics or fabric, or feathers.
It's ridiculous and a waste of money but I wouldn't call it any more abusive than the morons with too much money that have their dogs' hair dyed and nails painted just because they can.

Oh, I loved it. This is just for a show and these are dogs that regularly get groomed anyway. Having been a dog groomer, some dogs really love being groomed. So as long as the dogs are not bothered by it, I don't see it as abuse at all. If they did this to their dogs all the time and the dogs were forced to be on display as art pieces day in and day out, that would be bizarre and would be abuse.
But just some creative clipping, I think it's awesome. I loved the Panda and the camel.

I agree the dogs DO look unhappy, but in any case it is not physically harming the dogs, and however mean it is, there is really no grounds for an abuse accusation. I don't think it was fair to the poor dogs to turn them into walking art projects but I'd be willing to bet those dogs are treated pretty good otherwise. As for insulting, I don't think dogs are capable of being insulted, not the way humans feel insult. It is pretty mean, but there are other things that are worse, that aren't getting adequate attention. Why should we get upset over colored and styled dogs when there are dogs who are out there being beat or starved? You make a good point, but there are worse things out there.

I have seen similar *contests* like this in the US. I do not believe in dressing dogs up, carrying them around in purses, coloring their fur, etc., BUT I don't feel this is a form of abuse. Many, many show dogs have to go through *great lengths* to be groomed properly for dog shows and are quite use to it, and some probably enjoy it. I'm sure that these dogs are use to being groomed, as well. Even though I think the whole thing is quite stupid, I don't feel this is abuse, and the dogs don't care what they look like, anyway. They are still being their owner's pampered pet.

It's not something that I would do with my dogs, but I don't think it would be considered to be any form of Animal Abuse. The dog is not being hurt in any way! I don't see it as a big deal!

well....
i don't think anyone's going to like my answer, but here goes.
the dogs here- they're well cared for. they're not beaten or starving- i bet they're well trained and rather spoiled.
so they have to hold still for an hour or so.... then life goes back to normal.
i bet a lot of them enjoy the attention. i don't see a whole lot of difference between this and the intensive grooming that many breeds are subjected to, prior to a show. the dog probably wouldn't know the difference anyway.
so long as the dogs aren't being hurt or neglected, what's the harm?
some of the ideas are kind of neat. personally, it's stupid- i wouldn't do it.... but whatever.

Why in hell do you think it is a bad thing for someone to have fun with their dog!!!!!?
At least the dog isn't in a shelter somewhere about to be put to death!!!!
Show some compassion for the dogs that don't have a life, these are probably getting all the attention they would ever want.

I don't mean to sound insensitive, but as long as the dog isn't hurt I don't see the big deal - I do have to question some of the "costumes" though.. peacock? Really? Some people. :/
But as long as the dog isn't hurt or anything I don't see the huge deal. Some of them look rather happy.
