Who pays for sickness absence?
If a part time employee who works 2 hours per day for 5 days a week is off sick for 2 or 3 months, who will pay his period of absence? Is it the employer or is it the government? For how long does the employer have to pay?

It depends on how much the employee earns per week. If they earn over £95 per week then the employee has to pay statutory sick pay. Part time employees ARE entitled to sick pay just the same as full time. As long as the employee is handing in doctor's sick notes correctly the SSP will continue for a maximum of 26 weeks at which point the employer stops paying it and the government takes over. The employer gives the employer an SSP1 form telling them they have reached the end of the 26 weeks and the employee uses this to claim.
If the employee earns under £95 per week then the employer does not have to pay SSP and instead gives the them the SSP1 form straight away so that they can claim the money from the government.

It will depend on what it states in the contract of employment
An employer might pay all his wages, if that's what the contract says
other than that it's SSP .
