AP euro assignment killing me! Can you explain?
Okay, so i've ben pretty good at understanding this dreadful European textbook for my paper but now i'm kinda stumped. I have to explain how Newton contributed to blah blah blah...for one of my thirty-some page report. I can't really wrap my head around this quote:
"Newton had found that 'the force of gravity towards the whole planet did arise from and was compounded of the forces of gravity toward all its parts, and towards every one part was in the inverse proportion of the squares of the distances from the part.' "
Help please lol. Hopefully you can break this down more than i was able to. ^_^

Newton figured out that each force has an equal and opposite force and that the gravitational attraction between 2 planets is equal to GM1M2/r^2
where G = a constant, M1 and M2 are masses, and r^2 is the distance between the planets.
