You can trust a scorpion to sting you if she gets the chance. Thats in her nature.
You can trust a snake to bite you if you step on him so you walk around him if you know he's there.
You can trust government to generally keep the peace so that the elite need not fear knives in the night. You can trust it to expand its power at any opportunity and restrict your rights anytime you fail to defend them. You can trust that anything your government tells you is what they wish you to know because it serves their purpose for you to believe it. It could be true but government is fully willing and able to lie as well. It might be better if government always lied because at least then they would be consistent but you cant trust government that far.
So why do we trust the government. A certain amount of trust is called for. That doesn't mean that we trust them to work for our best interest. Government is a necessary evil. There are worse ones then ours and perhaps few if any better but no government is honest.

That's why the federal powers are supposed to be strictly limited per the constitution. Unless you're a liberal collectivist that twists the original intent of the founders

It is easier than facing reality I guess. You must really have to be skilled at repressing things to do it, but people seem to manage.

We have to trust them. We elected them. Someone has to run the Government.
