Challenge- can you find health insurance on your own?

Republicans who think that anyone who wants health insurance now can just walk in and buy it- I have a challenge for you.

Find private insurance. But it isn't quite so easy; there are some parameters. You can't buy through a group. You must tell them you have a chronic disease- juvenile diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, heart problem or whatever you choose. Then come back and report who is willing to sell you insurance- it has to cover that pesky pre-existing condition. Let me know who and how much. Oh, it has to be in California. I know Massachusetts has already reformed their system but I can't buy into that program and neither can most of the rest of the country.

If you can find affordable insurance available in California, I will write to Obama and say don't bother with health reform.

Good Luck.

Update:

Cold hard- you didn't finish the challenge- you didn't try to apply showing a pre-existing condition- try again

Update 2:

AS- you missed the part about supposing you have a pre-existing condition. You don't just get to walk in and pay out of pocket when treatments can cost thousands. Then you have various tests and medications. It is easy if you are healthy.

Update 3:

Invisible- Since when is 15 million a few. And who knows it could be you in the future. You really want to gamble?

Update 4:

Peach you are in a fantasy world. No one will insure someone who is already sick. Finish the challenge and get me a real quote from a real California company.

good post madart. dont count on anyone doing it . i worked in health insurance if you even could get insurance ( and im sure you couldnt) it wouldnt cover those diseases or would bankrupt you. i think the gop is smart enough to know that. which makes it worse . they know but they are trying to keep us from something that is good for us. if you saw the movie sicko you know that their system is so much better than what we have. yet you have them pretending it would be the worse thing in the world. i want to go to gop meetings and do what they have been doing. ask them if they want to pay for my health bills. or will they finally condemn the protesters who are bringing guns. or how about not lying . maybe just that.

As the first answer says, finding insurance is easy. It's affording it that gets messy. This is where the two parties differ on reform. Democrats want to just have government control it. Republicans want to make it easier for the average person to afford insurance. It's not as black and white as you make it out to be.

In Minnesota, if you're 30 years old and COMPLETELY HEALTHY (like me) you can get insurance that will cover pre-existing conditions after a full year for $250 a month... So... If you don't have anything wrong with you... the plan will cover what was wrong with you (which is nothing, since you wouldn't be on the plan if you did) after a year. System is ******* bizarre and broken.

you certainly CAN Buy most insurance policies on your own. Please take my professional advice. Peruse the net for the kind of insurance you want and the rates you seek. DO NOT apply for insurance on the internet and do not talk to AGENTS who respond to ONLINE inquiries.. just go directly to the insurance companys offical website..

You can Start by looking at blue cross blue sheild. they have a personal policy for about $183.00 a month which is fairly low..

Look for deductibles you can afford. Dont get $1,000 ded if you are low income.. get $200.. You pay first $200 insurance pays the rest.

Dont buy a policy that pays LESS THAN 80 percent of the medical costs.

ASK ABOUT VISION EXAMS GLASSES CONTACT LENSES AND DENTAL

Vision may mean a $40.00 exam but you pay $200 for glasses and lenses. DEFINE WHAT YOU WANT WHAT YOU WANT TO PAY FOR

    IT PAYS TO SHOP

Good companies CIGNA CNA AETNA HARTFORD TRAVELERS

There are dozens of others. Look up their ratings and consumer affairs sites for complaints.

BE WARE OF HMOS.. theyre price is lower but SERVICE can be WAY DELAYED AND poorer quality . Many Drs dont accept patients when the books say they do.

Good luck Shop wisely its your money and your health!

Personally, I've never been faced with this problem, but I have a niece and nephew who work minimum wage and does not meet the standards to get this state's - ACCES - but not nearly enough to be able to buy insrance on their own.

    YEE - HUH?

My daddy taught me there was no need to see a doctor for minor things. Like when the tractor cut off his toe he said it was gods wheel! So, if we have god insurance, then if we die, we will be with Jesus. So thats why I say goin to the doctor is a sin because your curing something god gave you!

Why should everyone else have to change for the few in the situation you are talking about?

Why not address issues like this and leave everyone else out of it?

  • 1 decade ago

how about just removing the barriers that prevent you from getting insurance across state borders. And then do a massive reform of tort judgments.

I just walk into the doctor when I need to and pay him.

I don't deal with paying monthly premiums for maybe 2 visits per year?

    That is CRAZY!
