Would this ice/heat pack be allowed as carry on by TSA?

I bought this item as a gift and am flying to the shower tomorrow. I am not planning on checking anything as I am flying there and back same day. Now I worry that the ice/heat pack will not be allowed as carry on. This is the item: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_...

Thanks.

It is not entirely clear from the TSA web site if the heat/ice pack will be permitted. I think the casserole dish itself is no problem.

Cooling packs are fine if you have a medical requirement for keeping medication cold, but there is no other reference to that type of material elsewhere.

If the contents of the heating/cooling pack is a liquid or gel, and, if the contents are more than 3.4 ounces (100ml), then it will not be allowed. Sorry to say. It would be OK if you decided to put it into a checked bag, but that was not your plan, of course.

You can call the TSA, however, to try to find out more specifically - from their web site:

If you have additional concerns or questions you can also contact TSA's Call Center at 1-866-289-9673 or by email at tsa-contactcenter~dhs.gov

You could mail it to the gift recipient, of course, and blame the delay on the security restrictions. I would do that rather than take the risk of it being confiscated.

Yes I think it is allowed as a carry-on. It's just some storage compartments used to hold food/liquid right? Pyrex generally produces home and kitchen things so I think it would be alright. Just make sure that it has NO liquid in it and if it does make sure it's at or below 3 ounces (100 mL). I don't think you would need to take it out and put it in a separate bin, just keep it in your carry on, whether it be a bag or a trolley.

Make sure you do not wrap it. If TSA suspects something is illegal in it, they will have to tear the item, which means tearing the wrap. You can bring some gift wrap to your destination so you can wrap it in flight or in your destination airport. Also, if it is glass, wrap it in bubble wrap so that it doesn't break. It will probably go in the overhead compartment in the cabin, which is shared with other people's things. They can bump due to turbulence from the aircraft, so keep it secure.

Pilots shouldn't carry weapons, they don't seem to be police or defense force.. we can't anticipate them to be experienced sufficient to have the means to apply them effectively. it extremely is not their activity. the answer is to easily make it impossible to get into the cockpit together as the airplane is in flight. eliminate the cockpit door and make it exterior get right of entry to basically. Or use some variety of time controlled lock.

I don't think it will work. You can have 3 oz bottles and all your bottles need to fit in a 1qt baggie. I read the product description and it's 3qt.
