How do I use my recovery disks to reinstall Vista on my Sony Vaio?
I have no personal data files on the new laptop that is of value so I'm not worried about backing them up. Just wish to install the original Vista as it was out of the box -- "bloatware" and all. :)
I bought a Sony Vaio VGN-BZ11MN with Vista Business pre-installed. The guide booklet said I should make recovery disks, so I did. (2 DVD+R). Because of all the "bloatware" I decided to downgrade to Win XP pro with the bundled disk. But I've had problems getting drivers etc so I'd like to use the recovery disks to re-install Vista. Trouble is, it starts the recovery process (to the blue screen then "system recovery options") after only reading the first disk. It doesn't instruct me to remove it and load the second one. Can you pleeease tell me how to use both disks so I can do the re-install? I'm not a geek so I'll need any advice in fairly simple steps. Thank you!
Many thanks to dba695. I appreciate you taking the trouble to answer and give so much detail.:) However, on this Vaio at least, hitting the F8 doesn't do anything. The laptop just continues on and boots up to win xp. I tried several times and no luck. If I use the F10 option as suggested in the guidebook, I get the same problems I had before. Any other advice, anyone? How can I get to this boot option page??

"You can also display the System Recovery Options window without using recovery discs.
To display the window, follow these steps:
1 Turn on your computer.
2 Press the F8 key when the VAIO logo appears.
3 Make sure the option to restore the computer, which is listed on the top of the boot
option window, is selected, then press the Enter key.
4 Select a keyboard layout and click Next.
5 Select a user name and enter the password.
Skip the following steps 2 to 3.
2 Select a keyboard layout and click Next.
3 Select an operating system and click Next.
4 If you have saved a backup copy of your data to an external hard disk
drive or discs with an external optical disk drive, connect the external
device to your computer.
5 Select Windows Complete PC Restore.
If you have saved the backup copy to CD or DVD discs, insert a disc to
the (external) optical disk drive.
6 Follow the on-screen instructions."
