Is this how they work now?

A friend of mine had a car accident, she was the victim.

OK it was bad, car totaled and it frightened her children.

NO physical injuries, didn't even be seen by a DR.

The insurance company offered her "pain & suffering" money.

Is this how it works?

Doesn't seem fair to those who are truly injured in a car accident ...

Update:

I myself am 23 months out of an accident & I spent thousands in medical bills, that I am beginning to think I'll never get back.

My "friend's" point is her children were terrified.

I found this "friend" to be very greedy & I told her so.

Update 2:

I, too, had a 13 month old in my car who was terrified by the accident..

    Pain and suffering does not have to be physical. Emotional pain and suffering is still "pain and suffering". Your friend though, is one reason our insurance rates are high. On the other hand, If the insurance company didn't think your friend had a case, they wouldn't have paid her

    It is always best to be seen by a doctor; there may be things that do not hurt now, but may later...Xrays and etc should be done before the insurance company wants to settle. I know from my wife's experience - 2 years ago & still has problems :{
