what is a good PC that I can get for doing multi-media?

to do tasks such as digital photo/video editing, DVD authoring, sound/music, etc. I want to get the best parts with the least amount of cash.

To edit today's high definition multimedia you will need very powerful hardware. If you are going for laptop, you should have at least core 2 duo processor. If desktop then go for quad core processor, either intel or amd. You will need at least 4 gig memory, but more will be even better. You will need a graphics card with dedicated memory 256 meg at least but 512 meg desirable. Your hard drive should be large capacity because today's multimedia occupies huge amount of disk space. And yes, the hard drive faster the better. 5400 rpm is standard but 7200 will be better. Last but not least, you need a good monitor. Buy one with 1920x1080 resolution which is same as high def video resolution. I think with these pointers you should be fine.

I have previewed a system by Dell. It's a Media Pc and can be built to your specs on-line. It can take up to 8 Gigs of memory and a large amount of storage. The video and sound are good with whats on-board.

A TV tuner and wireless keyboard and mouse are two options I highly recommend.

    CPU: Intel Core i7 920

    Motherboard: Gigabyte EX58-UD3R

    RAM: G.Skill-NQ 6G Kit(3x2G) DDR3-1333

    HDD1: WD Black 640 GB

GPU: Zotac 1GB 9600GT (high end GPU not needed if you are not gaming). CPU does most of the work here.

Case & PSU: Antec Sonata III w/ 500W Earthwatts PSU

Optical Drive: Any SATA DVD-RW drive will do.

$1300 estimated. Recommend Windows 7 64 bit and a 22 to 24 inch LCD screen.

I just got this desktop and it is amazing. I hooked it up to my 32" and its sweet. Also if you are one of the people that like keeping several applications running then you will like this one. The only problem is the size of the computer. Its so small that you have to get a low profile video card.
