What could pug's patch of dry skin with missing hair be?

I just saw that my 8 month old pug has a small patch of very rough, dry skin where she is missing her hair. This patch is about an inch long at the very base of her tail. We never saw it before since pugs' tails curl and it was covered due to that. She hasn't been itching it and isn't missing hair anywhere else. She doesn't seem to care when I touch it. What could be causing this, what should I do, and should I set up a vet appointment?

Unless you watch her 24/7, there's no way to know for sure that she's not biting or scratching it. It could be an allergic reaction, mange, a hot spot, etc. Only a vet will be able to tell you for sure. They might have to do a skin scraping. My one dog had a patch of fur missing on his face. It was red and weeping fluid. Turned out to be a hot spot, and the vet gave me some meds and cream to put on it. I think hot spots can be dry too though.

it could be a hot spot. you might want the vet to check it out because sometimes it can get really red and raw. i think its caused from allergies.
