Why can't scene kids stop calling it "gauging" and learn to stretch their piercings properly?

Seriously. I see so many people with scar tissue exploding out of the back of their lobes because they wanted to stretch to 00g over the summer. When are they going to learn that this is a delicate process that takes patience if you want respectable looking ears? And why are they so infatuated with who has the largest size? Comparing theirs to each others every second they get? It's sickening.

Thank you times a million! I get so frustrated with the kids coming on here with blood dripping onto their shoulders and they're like, "yeah, so I've been putting Neosporin on my gauges because I think I tore something when I went from a 14g to a 2g this weekend. I'm hardcorezzz I know...anyway, so do you think it's okay if I gauge to like 1/2" by the end of the week so long as I use the peroxide and ointment to prevent infection?"

Or the kids who, when you just know from their description have a blowout and you tell them to drastically downsize, they're like "eff that. I worked hard gauging from a 16 to a 00 in two weeks!" I think the worst was the kid several of us told it was a bad idea that he went from 12 to a 4 in one felled swoop (who, incidentally, was posting here because he had worn his tapers all weekend and couldn't get them out because blood and pus was stuck all over them) he said, "OMG STFU the guy at Hot Topic said it would be safe if I wore the tapers for a couple of days!" Since when did the kids who fold t-shirts at the goth shop become professional piercers or experts on stretching? I swear, sometimes I feel like when I try and give good advice to these kids it's like pissin' into the wind, you know?

But yeah, one day when they split their earlobes wide open or the tissue has necrotized and their earlobes are black from all of the dead skin from bad stretching, maybe they'll think back and realize people online (whom they assumed were just dumb old grown ups ruining their fun) may have been on to something.

ignorance seems to be big with the scenes nowadays -_-

idk why 00g seems like a large size to alot of kids

    but really its not

alot fo scene//fashiooncore kids do it for one reason and one reason only FASHION they could care less behind the history behind stretching and the patience it takes

they know nothing about body modification except that if they "gauge" there ears there somewhat more fashionable than the next scenieweenie

these are the kids who think only stretched lobes look good and rant about how labret stretching or any other form of stretching to any other piercing besides lobes is disgusting

I talked with someone on here before about this... Apparently "gauging" sounds cooler than stretching. I wanted to cry. People never learn. You can give them all the good advice you want, but at the end of the day, it's their ears to screw up. It's going to be interesting 20 years from now how the plastic surgery market sky rockets from kids being careless.

I haven't seen kids comparing ears yet, but that really doesn't surprise me.

I gauged my ears from a 8 gauge to a 00 gauge in about 4 weeks like a boss.

Not only scene kids call it gauging, I've heard lots of ppl calling it that. It seems to be like getting your ears pierced now...

And I agree, I've seen a lot of kids with nasty ear lobes running around. But, some have no patience and little knowledge about it before they jump in and do it.

    Its pretty lame, I know.

The answer is, of course, that people are ignorant and will blindly follow the "coolest" trend, even if it involves using incorrect terminology (that makes them sound unintelligent) and disfiguring themselves by getting blowouts, infections, and nasty things like the cat-butt effect because they're in too big of a hurry to impress their friends, that learning how to stretch a piercing properly takes too much time/work.

it is and it really pisses me off because us who really love body mods and do things right are looked on as fallowing a fad now. ahh!

yeah i've seen many ugly ugly ear lobes from stupid stretching.

the term "gauging" i hear constantly on here and the more i hear it the more irritated i get.

i also see so many people with tapers in their ear and it's not only little scene kids that are stretching their ears now. over here i see gangster wannabes and bros wearing them.

    makes me angry..

They'll learn that right about the time that they learn skinny jeans aren't cool.

People, young people in particular, simply do not listen to things they don't want to hear. They hear "fast food will give you zits" "driving too fast will cause accidents" "marijuana can lead bad places" "soda will rot your teeth" "pets are big responsibilities" "stretching too fast will really hurt you" and they just shake their heads and go "nah, it'll be fine."

Remember, guys, bad things only happen to OTHER people!!

It took me almost three years to get to my beloved half inch. The scene is ridiculous these days. Everyone feels the need to try and one up everyone in the amount of piercings they have.
