What do YOU think my true due date is?

I have asked this question to just about everyone I know, and no one seems to be able to tell me a straightforward answer. Here's why: I had my last period Dec 4, 2008 which would make my due date Sept 10, 2009. My first ultrasound showed the baby a little smaller than average, so the U/S tech pushed my due date out to the 24th of Sept. BUT, I got a very clear positive reading on a dollar store test on January 21, 2009. IF my due date is in fact the 24th, would I have gotten such a strong reading in January? This has been a question that has rolled around in my head since the moment the U/S tech changed my due date. Just curious to hear what others think. Thanks, in advance!

Update:

I forgot to mention that I was in fact breastfeeding when I got pregnant, so I know that could have played a role in my ovulation being late or otherwise. I was 19 weeks (according to MY dates) when I had my first U/S, and they were also able to determine pretty clearly that it's a boy if that makes any difference. I won't be getting induced at all, as I am having an at home water birth with a midwife! I'm not necessarily getting impatient, just curious. LOL!

I have three children. I always found the period dates more accurate than the ultrasound date. That is only 2 weeks difference. You should expect your baby to come between 2 weeks before the Sept 10th date and 2 weeks after. So most likely she will come some time between now and September 24th. I know towards the end the weeks drag on, but either way she should be here soon.

I would go by what the ultrasound tech says. They pushed my due date back 2 weeks as well. If you had a period on 12/4/08, then your next one would have been due 1/2/09 about. Even if you ovulated late, which you probably did, you would have gotten a strong postive on 1/21/09. My last period was 4/6/09 and my period was due 5/5/09. I got a strong postive at 5/18/09. So, it is possible that you ovulated late and the U/S tech's due date is correct. Hope I helped.

The earlier you see a doctor the more accurate the answer is, because they are able to look at your hormone levels and not just the presence of it like an at home pregnancy test does and of course the size of the fetus in ultrasounds and other such things. but it is VERY rare that babies are due on their due dates no matter how accurate they are with the development of the baby, so sorry to say you will just have to find out when the time comes, so be prepared for it at any moment!

    Good luck!

  • With my 1st baby, my LMP was December 6th, 2001. By January 18 2002, the pregnancy test came up as positive. My due date was September 12. And my daughter was born on Sept 19.

I think that you will probably deliver sometime between the 10th of September and the 24th.

Due Dates are just an estimation. It doesn't mean that you will deliver on that date.

A strong or weak reading on a pregnancy test doesn't mean anything. A weak reading doesn't mean you are 'barely' pregnant and a strong positive doesn't mean you are really really pregnant.

I know you hear this over and over, but due dates are just an estimation. There is NO WAY to know an exact actual due date unless you know the conception date and were tracking your ovulation.

The doctors are doing the best they can by giving you estimated dates.

    Good luck to you.

well, how far along were you when the ultrasound showed baby to be smaller? the earlier the ulotrasound the more accurate. so if it was before 12 weeks. i would go by the ultrasound. ultimately, it's the doctors decision. if he thinks you are due on september 24th and yuou dont go into labor on your own before then. he wont induce you before thsat

    I don't know. It's a little complicated.
