Which HDTV would you buy?

So I have narrowed the list down to 2 HDTVs that I want, but I cant decide which one. The TVs I want are:

Samsung 40" LCD LN40B530 60000:1 Dynamic

Phillips 42" LCD 42PFL3603D/27 29000:1 Dynamic

The specs for these tvs can be found here:

http://www.buy.com/prod/samsung-ln40b530-40-widesc...

http://www.buy.com/prod/philips-42pfl3603d-27-42-1...

Now both of these TVs are on sale at Walmart for 798.00.... which brings me to my next question. My friend told me that the TVs offered at Walmart are somehow of less quality than the ones offered at higher end stores. Is this true?

Ill award best answer asap. Thanks.

I've heard the Walmart myth as well. Exact same products from exact same brands, but using inferior parts to try and meet Walmart pricing demands. I've not seen any consumer group actually formally investigate and prove or disprove this though. While I can kind of see companies doing that, I don't entirely buy into the story, at least right now.

Samsung is a stronger television manufacturer than Philips. I would go with their set over the Philips for sure. I think you'll get a better overall image quality from the Samsung.

But brand reputation aside, its your TV at the end of the day. You really should go and check it out in person. Let your eyes factor into your buying decision. Spec sheets, reviews, and other opinions should only take you so far. At some point your eyes need to get into the mix, as its your eyes that have to watch the TV day in and day out.

Lastly, at that price, you could get a 42" Panasonic Viera TC-P42S1 from Best Buy. Its a 42" 1080p Plasma. It would deliver a stronger overall image than either of those two that you have selected. Its on sale right now for $800 at Best Buy (regular $1,000). You might have already done your Plasma vs LCD considerations and chosen LCD, and that's fine. But incase you haven't, I just thought I'd throw that out there for you, since the price/size are in the same range as what you listed.

Samsung always Quality + Reliable !

Samsung 40 inc use LCD Display Panel manufactures by Korea S-LCD ( JV between Sony-Samsung , Sony 19-40 inc use the same Display panel )

Philips use LCD display Panel by LG-Philips Display Korea.but after Philips total sold it to LG 2007. Some of the Philips tv ,USE OTHER MAKER Display panel.ie Taiwan AU-Optrton/ Che-Mei.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LG_Philips_Display

is about same range of specifications .will be no significant difference to you eye in pictures quality.

    go for Samsung for RELIABLE.
