The repair shouldn't take much more than a day, but while being repaired the water will be turned off to the house.
If the failure is out at the leech field then the rerpairs could take a couple of days to relocate the lines or to add lines to your existing ones, depending on what's causing the seepeage.
It's a health hazard and costly, but repair is critical.

Bob is correct. The Tank is full and needs to be pumped out. How far from the house is the tank? Something to think about is the drain field as well. That stuff should not be coming any where near the house. That could be a health problem. How old is the house and the tank, drain field ? Either way you can still live in the house while the work is being done.

After your septic is drained you might want to get your lines scoped with a small camera. It will cost from 250-600 dollars but if you fear the worst this can help you before its too late and it backs up into your home .A septic problem can cost thousands.
Laundry detergent and bleach can make your septic not work so well.
A small piece of raw cow liver flushed down the line or dropped into your first tank can help create the enzymes your septic needs to work properly.
just a thought,I hope it can be of some help to you

You probably just need to get tank pumped out. Nothing is going to work right until you get it done. Nowhere for stuff to go.
