Is all hospital food awful? does it have to be?
Recently I spent a week in hospital, one of the best in my city, and the only edible food was the cheese and biscuits (afternoon snack) and the bread and butter. All the cooked food was plain steamed, no salt, herbs or oil; a beautiful looking piece of chicken was pink and close to raw in the centre, all the vegetables were still hard.
Isn't good nutrition supposed to help you get better? what good is it if you can't eat it and end up living on sandwiches the whole time you're in there? Sandwiches had a single thin slice of filling and a smear of sauce (mayo, chutney etc).
Okay, that's a lot of questions in there. Really I just want to know, is it possible for a hospital to provide meals that are properly cooked and taste good?

There is no excuse for badly prepared food in any institution and especially in hospital, never mind the nutritional benefits, it's also important for the feel good factor. Napoleon realised this when he said an army marches on it's stomach, good food is essential in any stressful situation you find yourself in, and in hospital has to a major contributing factor to getting better.

Hospital food can actually be really good. They have a cycle of menus. You may or may not get the better meal for the day. Cafeteria food are always delicious because they can be seasoned according to taste. Patient food, however, are limited in seasoning and use low sodium everything. Scrambled eggs for example are liquid eggs with no cholesterol meaning it's only the white part of the egg. Furthermore, those eggs cannot be seasoned with salt or pepper or with anything else. Wouldn't you think that would taste horrible? You are provided with salt and pepper packets though.

OMG I love hospital food! One time I was there for 2 weeks. I would actually wake up at 5 AM and wait for the nurse to bring me a plate of delicious breakfast at 5:30 because I loved it! (then again i was on steroids at the time because of a condition I have so I was scarfing everything in sight) :D

Honestly, I've never had bad-tasting food at any of the hospitals I've been in. A little under seasoned, but that's to be expected. They at least provide packets of seasoning with the food. Otherwise, the food is well-prepared.

Actually, there's a hospital behind my house and it has excellent food. Also the one in a city nearby has good food also. My friends and I actually walk and eat lunch at the one behind my house sometimes.
They have a variety of foods at the hospital behind my house, and they get new specials every day.
Oh! One thing I just didn't understand was the fact that there was a McDonald's in the other city's hospital..aren't you supposed to get healthier at a hospital?

Hospital food is made for general diets, considering so many people have special diets, and you have to keep in mind the amount of mouths they have to feed, and your going to get something off of every food group so your getting food that benefits the average diet.
