What is there to do in Altoona Penn?

My wife and I are going to be doing a huge road trip to Pennsylvania in 2010 which will have us camping hiking doing amusement parks etc.

Besides Lakemont park and Delgrossos which is why we are going to be there in the first place, what else is there to do there? We love museums, hiking, and fun stuff.

Please suggest as much as possible.

Go see the Horseshoe Curve, it's a really big thing there. There's also a small railroad museum. Not much else in Altoona.

Also head over to State College. Penn State has an Art Museum, and great ice cream at the Creamery. Also a couple of tiny museums on campus and nearby -- Rock and Mineral, Anthropology, Centre Furnace Mansion, the great PA Military Museum.

Hiking -- the best hiking is the Mid-State Trail and some of its spurs. http://hike-mst.org/spurs.html Pick one with a fire tower for amazing views of the ridges.

You can listen to music and if you try hard enough, you can see the music.

Source(s): From "Flashdance" (a movie from the olden days of the 1980s). Jennifer Beal's character was from Altoona. Sorry I couldn't resist. hehe
