Use the formula for volume of a cylinder, which is (pi)(radius²)(height)

    So,

    -you know pi=3.14

-you know radius=half diameter, so radius=3. Got that so far?

-Ok, you also know height, but be careful! It's not 12...that's the whole vase. You want volume of just the sand! So the height is 3 inches.

    Now, plug in the values:

    volume of sand = (3.14)(3²)(3)

    =84.73 = 85 in.^3
