1. "Did you play soccer?" would refer to a specific time, or period of time, or an indefinite time in the past. Example: Did you play soccer when you were 15? Or: Did you ever play soccer before you were 15?
2. "Had you played soccer?" would be used referring to a time prior to some past date. Example: Had you played soccer by the time you were 15?
