The argument was between John Force and Tony Pedregon and began when Tony accused John of throwing a race. Tony Pedregon's brother and teammate, Cruz, was battling to secure the 10th and final spot in the Funny Car Countdown to 1 (NHRA playoff format). He lost his second round matchup to John Force, but Robert Hight had to beat Force in the semi-finals to claim the final spot. Force lost traction early in the run, which allowed Hight, who drives for Force's team, to take the easy win. Tony Pedregon was down at the finish line following his loss to Ashley Force and saw the race and confronted John Force saying he intentionally drove out the groove to throw the race and allow his teammate Hight to win and get in the Countdown. NHRA officials reviewed John Force's run and concluded no foul play.

John Force Threw the race so that another one of his cars could make the field of 10 that race for the championship. This action eliminated Cruz Pedrogon from the chase.

It was pathetic and NHRAshoulds not allow John Force to have 4 cars in the same division.
