I bought a sewing patten and one of the things I need is a hook and eyes but I have no idea what means.

It is used as a fastener on clothing. The hook is stitched on one side and the eye is stitched to the other. To fasten the hook goes into the eye.

It's like the fastener on the back of a bra. One side is a loop, and the other side is a hook that clasps to the eye. You can get them at any craft store.
