Is it possible to read the entire original version of the President's school speech online?

I cannot see what people are upset about. I am a Republican, and read the text of the speech that was done today, and cannot see where it promotes any agenda, other than individual responsibilty.Apparently, the news reports say that there was something in the original version...can I read that anywhere?

What seems to have stirred up controversy wasn't the speech itself but the materials delivered to schools from the department of education. These lesson plans and extra materials asked things like "what can you do to help the president" and other such things. I don't think there was anything wrong with that since it was simply asking children to think of their own answers. Some people in my family pray for the president everyday; what's wrong with that?

Obama's speech as is stands, doesn't promote an agenda and no, I'm not aware of any place where the original draft is posted.

I'm sure they made a few revisions between the original and the one given today. But that is standard practice and I'm sure every speech the President gives (regardless of which president) is edited up to the minute that it is actually given.

However, what was removed from the original draft is unknown and there is no reason for the neocons to get their panties in a twist over it now.

At this point, their repeated whining and complaining is nothing more than partisan bickering.

This is the only version that was ever written. SOME people in your party ASSumed that Obama was going to say something else that promoted 'socialism' or 'communism' or 'marxism'. Thus, they protested the speech without ever actually waiting to hear what the speech was going to be about. As he said from the start, he was talking about the importance of education.

Others in your party claim that it wasn't the speech, but the Dept of Education's lesson plan ideas...one of which included the question 'how can I help the President?' referencing their own educational goals. Again, some people freaked out and claimed that Obama wanted kids to submit to helping him out. Not surprisingly, they failed to react with the same vengence and outrage when G HW Bush asked the same thing of students. Bush: "Let me leave you with a simple message: Every time you walk through that classroom door, make it your mission to get a good education. Don't do it just because your parents, or even the President, tells you. Do it for yourselves. Do it for your future. And while you're at it, help a little brother or sister to learn, or maybe even Mom or Dad. Let me know how you're doing. Write me a letter -- and I'm serious about this one -- write me a letter about ways you can help us achieve our goals. I think you know the address.'
