Blood Pressure and Cholesterol?

OK here it goes. im 21 male 145 lbs i went to the doctor a cpl weeks ago and had high blood pressure. ive been havng chest pain. but i think its a chronic thing. anyways well she took my blood and said i was high on cholesterol and called and said i needed to pick up a script for that too.

now im wondering i smoke cigarettes and pot and when i went i smoked before i went. would that make my heart rate a difference. maybe enough for her to think i was high blood pressure and can i change my blood pressure and cholesterol by excercise and food diet instead of all these damn meds. i haevtn worked out in yrs so thats probably why considering i used to play sports and was athletic. any suggestions?

    Basically you are right and your doctor is not!

    A 21 year old positively SHOULD NOT be prescribed a drug for cholesterol without any other pertinent risk factors. ( this is not guideline management)

    Hypertension is NEVER appropriately diagnosed, let alone treatment commenced, after a couple of weeks! ( this is not guideline management)

    I suggest that firstly you find another GP this time someone who is familiar with good medical practise.

    Secondly for goodness sake if you are worried about your health,and you must be,or else why did you go to a doctor in the first place?????? STOP SMOKING everything,ensure you are no more than your ideal weight,take regular vigorous exercise and eat a good balanced diet that includes your 5 a day and is low in animal fats.

    In my references I have included the NICE guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of hypertension and lipids.

    You can't know your blood pressure from one test at the doctor's office. Get a monitor and test yourself several times a day for several weeks. If it is high, ( more than 140/80) ask your doctor for a prescription.

    Forget about cholesterol. It is not a problem., It's all a myth perpetrated by the drug companies. Cholesterol is actually good for you. Whatever you do, don't take statins. They are dangerous and expensive and completely unnecessary.

    First of all, you need to see a physician. The effects of high blood pressure and cholesterol are life-threatening. S/he will probably give you medications for both, depending on how high the numbers are. The best thing that you can do for your health is lose weight. This means a diet high in vegetables and low in saturated fats. Also exercise, all you need is one-half hour of walking 5 times a week. And this means walking outside of your normal daily activities.

    High blood pressure is caused by low on potassium. Here is what you should do. Avoid fatty foods, take lots of potassium food normally they are fruits like banana, MANGO, guava, peaches, kiwi, nectarines and lots more. Virtually all types of fruits are rich in potassium. Avoid foods that are high in cholesterol like pork and beef.. try fish and oh by the way take some omega-3 for better heart.

    To lower your cholesterol it is proven that garlic does the job. There are garlic pills that can be taken without giving foul breath.

    Exercise is needed also and will surely help to regulate your blood pressure.

    One BP reading doesn't necessarily mean you are hypertensive, is that the only one your doctor has taken?

    Has your blood been checked for cholesterol?

    Smoking tobacco raises blood pressur though the weed has the opposite effect, but it does increase your pulse rate.

    There are things you can do to help yourself with diet and exercise, to say nothing of stopping smoking.

    Why worry so much when you are disregarding your health?

    I think the jury is still out on the potassium idea...

    Most of a group studied who had low potassium and hypertension had other problems too - weight, poor kidney function (dear friend!)

    Dear Friend, High Blood Pressure or Hypertension (HTN) is checked in different times and situations to find out complete and true reading that is mm of Hg. It's not done in single check up. Secondly, for chest pain there are many possible reasons not the HTN only. Furthermore it's not chronic (old problem) in your case, it's acute (newer).

    Tips are:

    - Reduce Weight (First check your BMI - Body Mass Index)

    - Quit smoke, alcohol (if any) and or caffeine

    - Exercise is must - Even a half to one hour brisk walk.

    Well smoking cigs will reduce oxygen flow, causing your heart to have to work harder to pump blood,ect..The CO2 running thru your body, will cause your arteries to hardened, which in turn will make it seem like your endurance isn't as good as it used to be. Basically,your whole body will to have to work harder to maintain your breathing.

    High cholesterol can result from poor diet, and lack of exercise.

    To help lower your bad cholesterol, high in fiber, low sodium diets can help.It was shown that Fish Oil, and daily dose of vitamins (c), can help as well.

    Blood pressure and cholesterol are related to each other. Stop smoking cigarette and cannabis and change your lifestyle. Hypertension and hypercholesterolemia can be controlled by diet, exercise and medications.

    No further comments can be offered without blood pressure readings and cholesterol profile results.
