My daughter didn't seem to be saying anything, until she was 18 months about and she came in while I was visiting with family. "Come on in here" I said. She said "I gotta go see dis ting (thing)" and then turned and walked away. Turned out, she was saying sentences really fast, so when she slowed down I started recognizing words. Her word count literally went from like 2-3 recognizable to 100+ overnight.

    I wouldn't be worrying yet.

Some children don't even say that much by your baby's age and some say more. One friend's daughter was saying sentences by the time she was a year old, whereas, my eldest niece didn't speak more than a dozen words until age four. The friend's daughter has a double-degree from UCLA and my niece has five degrees including one in Chemical Engineering from M.I.T. so, it appears, some children prefer to not verbalize all the vocabulary they've retained until the day comes, 'out of the blue' when they surprise you by beginning a conversation!

Be sure to read him a story every night and, by the time he begins to talk in earnest, he'll amaze you with his knowledge.

He sounds like he's doing very well. My older son didn't utter a word until he was gone 18 months, and nothing properly until he was nearly 2! My second son wasn't much different. It's only when they hit around 2 years old and still aren't saying much is when you should have concerns.

Enjoy, cos very soon you are not going to be able to shut him up! lol ;o)

every child is unique and has their own way of doing things. teach him more words...he'll pick-up only what he hears, so keep talking to him. my son's 20 months n he says over 50 words n also a few sentences.
