As Knowitall said…“many people are thin that don’t workout”…BUT those people might still be considered medically obese.

A person could be very thin and at the same time very fat. A 110lbs woman could be considered obese (NWO Normal Weight Obese) if she has a body fat percentage of 30% or greater, even if her BMI is less than 25. Some people called skinny-fat, look skinny and do not weigh much, but one third of their body is made out of fat reserves and they are very weak (lack of muscle mass), flabby, and the opposite of toned. For them, eating nothing is better than exercising and taking care of themselves. They can be more unhealthy than an overweight person which is why they are categorized as “obese” by the medical profession because they can die from the same weight related diseases.

A skinny-fat person occurs as the result of bad genetics, poor eating/drinking habits, and complete avoidance of the gym.

That said…once you start losing weight without exercising is when you start being in trouble. You will surely end up getting fatter and fatter, even if you get lighter, for a while, until you get bigger, eventually. The numbers on the scale are not indicative of your health. For example, it would be much better to be a 5’5 healthy and fit 130lbs woman, who does not have to count her calorie intake, with a 21.6 BMI than a 5’5 unhealthy and unfit 110lbs “obese” woman with a 18.3 BMI (obese AND underweight…weak and flabby!), with a very low calorie diet.

Also muscle mass takes 3 times less space than fat reserves so you’re much thinner, you look better…are stronger, healthier…the list goes on.

If you lose weight without exercising, your metabolism will go down the drain for two main reasons: you’re eating under your BMR and you’re losing muscle mass because you’re not maintaining it with exercise (use it or lose it).

So you’re not eating enough for your Basal Metabolic Rate (otherwise you would not lose weight without exercising) then your body will adapt and lower your metabolism to save you from starvation, so as time goes by, your body will just need less and less calories so if at one point, you decide to eat normally again, your body will make fat reserves very easily. You’ll get back all the weight you lost and then keep going up and up…unless you start exercising A LOT.

You might as well start exercising now, when it still means losing fat reserves or being able to eat more, instead of after you damage your body so then you have to exercise, without eating much, just to not get fat. A lot of people who adapted to a low calorie diet are now exercising like crazy and they wish they had made the decision to exercise BEFORE their metabolism went down the drain. The other ones are just gaining weight every year.

Also your metabolism will go down as you lose muscle mass. Each pound of muscle mass needs 50 calories a day to maintain…18,250 calories a year = a gain of more than 5 pounds of fat reserves when you lose only one pound of muscle mass because of lack of exercise (3,500 calories for each pound of fat reserves).

Trying to lose weight without exercising is even worse than trying to maintain weight without exercising. You need to maintain your muscle mass or maybe regain it.

    I wish you the best.

Your body adjusts as you reduce calories, so don't start off at 600 calories, that's insane. Find out how much you burn in a day and slowly decrease the amount over a couple of months. Don't do anything drastic or you won't have anywhere to cut more calories from; you'll lose a couple of pounds in the beginning but that will be it.

Be smart about it, I'm sure you can find some decent weight loss plans on the internet.

Weight loss is 80% diet. Many people are thin that dont workout.

To get a good estimate on how many calories you burn in a day I would need your age, gender, general activity level, height, and cureent weight.

    Sample -

18 year old female at 130lbs. 5 ft 4 inches tall who has a desk job =

    1400 calories to maintain

and less than 1400 to lose weight.

This is just an estimate and may need an adjustment +/- 200 calories

It's about so much more than losing weight. The SINGLE best thing you can do for your body is exercise - it builds muscle - which not only keeps you strong, but is far more attractive than loose flabby arms etc.. It pumps blood to the brain, boosts your immune system, keeps all your organs working in good order..

If you eat between 1600 and 1800 calories/day you will lose weight, but make sure you exercise too!

About 200 less than you need to maintain your current weight. This works out to be about 1800 calories for the average person.
