Four-year-old doesn't say "k" sound?

She pronounces it as "t" every time she talks. Kick is "tick", cat is "tat", etc. Is this normal? Outside of that, she has an excellent vocabulary and is reading simple words. Should I be worried about her speech?

sorry im not much help here, but my son is 3 and going through the same thing. Naything that has to do with "K" or "c" (cake, cat etc) he cant pronounce. I am taking him to a speech therapist, the only thing she suggests is to sound it out in everyday words, eventually they will learn how to say it. I am glad im not the only one that is going through the same thing. Good luck!! Keep reading her stories and stuff to help! =)

It is unusual, but not unheard of. My niece did the very same thing at a very similar state of development. For my niece a few sessions with a speech therapist solved the problem.

You can try to misunderstand her, when she makes these mistakes, to force her to pronounce more clearly. That's a tool, my friend who is a speech therapist uses sometimes.

I wouldn't be worried if the K is the only one she is having problems with. Just keep practicing with her and when she says tick or kick etc correct her and tell her nice try but it is KK Kick and have her try and repeat it. Eventually she will get it.

i wouldn't be worried kids have difficulty with hard sounds and the doubles TH and SP it very common. My eldest is five and she still has a hard time with some of them. Especially if shes excited. If your daughter can do it slowly then shes most likely fine.
