If an illegal enters an ER for care under the proposed plan.?

Will they be treated then billed $3800 for not having insurance? Or will they be denied services until they get insurance? Or will it be status quo...because 9 million or so on a mexican diet are sure to have continuing needs

US LAW says NO ONE can be turned away during medical emergency. That is what needs to be addressed.

I can't imagine anyone being turned away in a true emergency.

I also can't imagine a hospital not billing and trying to collect directly from someone who was not insured. If an illegal did not have documentation, I would guess that he would want to work out some sort of a payment plan so that he does not call attention to his illegal status.

And why do people assume it is only illegals or the uninsured who use the emergency room for non-emergency situations?

Perhaps the problem is that people do not want to wait 2 weeks to see their doctor, and that there are no walk in clinics near them.

Since so many are talking about how NO ONE is denied care, then there are 2 possibilities:

    1. That will change, so that illegals will be asked for papers, then denied service or billed for it.

    or

    2. Obama is ***drum roll please*** LYING about illegals not getting covered under the plan.

Based on recent history, which do you think is the more likely scenario? I'd say # 2, because the #2 in the White House can't open his mouth without telling a lie.

Since none of the bills currently in circulation even truly address this situation, my bet is that the status quo will remain. The bills aren't even being written by elected officials, and given how so many of the special interest groups that are writing these bills are minority groups, you know they won't ever address illegal immigration issues.

Well I work in the ER and MANY on a daily basis enter our ER and it's called the EMTALA law.................no one can be turned away with or without insurance. Thats not the problem it's that so many illegal aliens are already recieving FREE health care from the gov't and it's not going to end with this new bill.

Illegal alien abuse of the US healthcare system is one of the main reasons medical treatment costs are so high. Patients at the emergency room should be triaged, true life threatening illness or injury should go straight to treatment. Anyone at the emergency room for a non-life threatening condition sholud be required to provide ID and citizenship status. Illegal aliens, and their anchor babies, with non-life threatening conditions should be refused service, unless they pay up front in cash.

Oh yeah! The famous Mexican diet! Yo Ciero Taco Bell! So much more dangerous than McDs., which is a panacea for all that ails.

They will be treated just like now. And just like now people who actually pay their bills will pick up the tab. Hospitals take this into account when they figure how much fees will be.

Neither, doctors would treat them because of their oath to save lives and this insurance would not cover them. Just like now.
