Kinder Care or family care?

Does anyone know how much infant child care centers charge? I don't know if I can afford it, or if I have to settle for a family member to care for my 9 month old while i am at work.

Update:

My mother in law would have to babysit. She's in her 60's does not drive and would probably sit him in front of the tv most of the day. I know that she loves him like one of her own, but I would rather he get educated while being taken care of.

I live in Canada, Ontario and before deciding to stay home with my daughter I did look into a few daycare center's in my area, if it's a public licensed daycare is was about $1300 a month and a loooong waiting list to get my one year old in, a home daycare where someone has 5 children at once everyday was $125 a week. I was uncomfortable leaving my daughter with anyone though so I chose to quit my job

You are "settling" for a family member who loves your child vs a child care center where your child will be left to cry and ignored?

    What?

In a child care center the ratio is 4 babies to 1 adult. That means if your child is crying, hurt, scared, hungry, whatever, they have to wait because there is only 1 woman and all 4 babies can have needs at the same time.

I would rather have a relative who adores my daughter watch her any day. I know when I leave my daughter with my mom that my mom gives my daughter 100% attention, holds her all the time, cuddles her, and treats her like the most important person in the world.

Full day daycare in my town is $204 for kids over 18 months and $275 a week for infants.

All day cares are not the same. Some close minded people feel that daycare is abusive and horrible for children. My children have experience both(home care and daycare), and I have had nothing but positive experiences. Shop around if you are interested in day care. Lots of them are expensive, but use your intuition when making visits. Make a list of the important qualities you want in a daycare. If you choose to have your child taken care of by a family member, thats cool too. Usually there is a smaller chance of cold catching in the home, but sometimes at home, the tv can be the babysitter. Both can be rewarding though. Good Luck!

I'm not sure about other countries but if you live in Canada you may qualify for a subsidy depending on your income. You have to use a licenced dayhome or daycare but you can choose which one. If you're not comfortable with you MIL I would find a daycare/dayhome that suits your needs and you can afford and use her for back up, date night etc. My MIL feeds my son ice cream and buys him toys whenever she babysits but occasionally that's fine, daily would be a problem. I would start looking right away, ask everyone you know where there kids go and if they'd recommend it for your 9 month old. I found my daycare talking to a co-worker waiting in line at a grocery store. You could also talk to any stay at home moms you know, they may be willing to add another child to their home at an affordable rate. There are many options out there, you just have to look and you'll know when you find the right one.

Wolves are the first animals that come to my mind when I think of a family-oriented animal. They are intensely social animals. They live in family groups called packs, which usually have less than 10 members, though up to 30 have been recorded. The pack is led by a dominant pair called the alpha male and female - they mate for life and are the pack's only breeding pair. The rest of the pack is made up of their siblings and/or offspring. Below the alpha pair is a second-in-command called a beta wolf. Then come mid-ranked individuals, and at the bottom of the heap is the omega wolf, the lowest-ranked pack member. All members of the pack help to hunt, defend the territory and raise the alpha pair's young. The strict heirarchy of the pack is maintained through displays of dominance and submission, which eliminate the need for physical violence. A dominant wolf will stand tall with its head up, ears pricked and tail raised. A submissive wolf will crouch low, with head down, ears flattened and tail tucked between the hind legs. It may even roll over on its back as a gesture of complete submission. Members of the pack are very affectionate towards each other, often licking and nuzzling, and play together every day. They are extremely loyal to one another, and will feed, protect and take care of sick or injured pack members. Maintaining the bonds between them is essential for their survival, and they have been observed to mourn when a member of the pack dies - they cease play for around 6 weeks, and howl often as though calling to the missing member. There are even cases known in which, when one of a mated pair dies, the other will stop eating until it too dies.

personal choice -call the center and ask about fees. never "settle" for child care or anything for your child.

Depends on where you live, but i'd guess anywhere between 200-270 a week.
