What would the premiums cost for government health insurance?

How much will people have to pay to be covered by Obama care? Are there estimates? Do many people believe it will be free? It's good to know the price of things before you buy them.

That is a good question. A whole lot of people are going to be disappointed when they find out they they will be forced to buy health insurance otherwise facing a fine. I don't really see how that is reform. People can choose to go out and buy insurance now, so what is the advantage? And how will costs be controlled? In some states, like California where I live, auto insurance is mandatory. Instead of decreasing costs, providers charge more, as anyone who has taken their car in for collision damage sees when comparing payed for by insurance vs. out of pocket for the same work (my truck, for example, was quoted as costing $1300 to $1500 to take out a dent while out of pocket it would only be $600).

If anything, Obama and Congress are legislating a massive "gimmie" to the insurance companies. In the end, I think they are really going to mess up the system so badly that people will be begging for a single payer system in a few years. That is horrible, as the 80% of us that are happy with our health care will be screwed over being forced into an inferior system.

Well, here's the dirty little secret. They WILL cost more, but poor little middle class Joe Blow won't be paying that cost. He'll be subsidized. So, while the cost of the government premium might be $1,000 a month, he'll still only be paying $50 or nothing at all. The remainder will be paid by the tax payers, a.k.a the top 49 percent of wage earners. Can you imagine if Obama floated this abortion out to his peeps and expected them to pay the actual cost of their premium? The 'Obama Money' people, 51% of the population, would revolt!

At its start, in 1966, Medicare cost $3 billion. The House Ways and Means Committee, along with President Johnson, estimated that Medicare would cost an inflation-adjusted $12 billion by 1990. In 1990, Medicare topped $107 billion. That's nine times Congress' prediction. Today's Medicare tab comes to $420 billion with no signs of leveling off. How much confidence can we have in any cost estimates by the White House or Congress?

    Great Question!

IF it is going to be as "Affordable" as they claim, Why won't they give some kind of estimated cost per person or household?

They could easily put up a sliding scale based on a persons income. But they won't, which tells me they have no clue, but still want to pass this legislation, because they know it will give the government greater control over our lives. And That is what this is all really about ~ Control.

No, it will not be free, yes there will be premiums, no one knows how much they will cost because there is no final bill yet, and yes, everyone will know the price of things before they buy them. Try to keep up, OK?

There are no actual figures that have been released YET.

It will also depend on one's income, as those who can't afford it will be subsidized.

WE won't be voting on it; Congress will. But they're not voting immediately, so there's time for experts to crunch numbers.
