What will happen if you keep a rotten tooth in your mouth for about 2 years?
My husband lost a temporary filling in one of his teeth about 3 years ago. About 2 years ago he started complaining of tooth pain. Every so often, the pain comes and goes. He now has to pack cotton inside of the tooth so he can eat and to keep it from hurting sometimes. He now says that he can taste the rotten-ness sometimes. I looked at the tooth about 5 months ago and it doesn't even look like a whole tooth, it looks like a half of one. It also is dark inside of it, like rot maybe. He also says he can smell it on his breath sometimes. I'm very concerned. We don't have health insurance, that's why he haven't went to the doctor yet. Is his health in jeopardy? What should he do? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

He runs the risk of it becoming infected. An abscessed tooth is not only extremely painful, but it can also be deadly. Not only that but chronic decayed teeth can lead to heart disease. He really needs to get that treated. Try calling the hospitals dentistry training center. The dentists in training work on teeth for a fraction of the price.

I've got a fully rotten tooth in the top of my mouth. It's been there a few years and hasn't caused any problems. Will it kill me if I just ignore it?

rotten teeth are prone to get infected and cause MORE SERIOUS PROBLEMS.
(can you cook or eat rotten vegetable?----it is waste only and is the same with rotten tooth)
consult a dentist as soon as possible.temporary filling as name implies has to be in teeth only for a short time.after this it should be replaced by permanent teeth filling material.
NOW that teeth has to be either FILLED WITH PERMANENT MATERIAL or if not possible should be saved by doing a ROOT CANAL or if not possible to save also then has to be EXTRACTED.
grossly decayed teeth can smell bad due to presence of MICROORGANISMS in it and can lead to infection underneath the root of tooth and still if not treated can results in more complications(such as space infection) and high treatment cost.
so get treated when the PROBLEM is somewhat simple itself.
good luck

if it's a temporary filling he should have come back to his dentist after a wk or two to change it since there's already pain and you said it's dark inside i think the remedy for that is to remove the tooth...
