To my Catholic Friends out there, about the blessing of the rosary?

Does the blessing follow the chain or the beads and medallions on the Rosary?

I ask because my 2 year old has ripped my favorite rosary & believe me it has become unrepariable.

So I must crotchet it back together, and I was wondering if there was official doctrine or thought on the subject.

Update:

I have completely taken my rosary off it's chain so I can crotchet it back together.

Update 2:

My beads & medallians / cross are not damaged, just the chains which hold them together.

And I am keeping all my beads/medallians to bind them together tomorrow by crotcheting them. My mother makes rosaries in such a fashion and they do look nice.

If it has to be thrown out, you must burn it or bury it. It cannot go into the common garbage. If you are repairing it or wash it, it wouldn't hurt to have it re-blessed. After all, if you get your house blessed, it's usually an annual event.

I not sure about your question. There might be a way to find out if the blessing holds with a simple experiment:

Put the repaired rosary beads around a possessed person's neck as was done in the below classic book citation. If the demons come out of the person, the blessing is still good:

Check out the following link for the book The Admirable Secret of the Rosary under numbers 86, 87, and especially 101:

The rosary is the prayer of the gospel.

I doubt a rosary loses its blessing if it is damaged and repaired, but you can ask a priest to have it re-blessed just to make sure. If the medals were blessed separately they will not lose their blessings. If you attach them to a new rosary, though, you'll want to have the new rosary blessed.

There is NO SCRIPTURAL BASIS FOR THE ROSARY, AS SEEN HERE:

First, let's see what the Catholic Encyclopedia says about the rosary:

    http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/13184b.htm

Now, reading through this article, I don't see a SINGLE SCRIPTURAL REFERENCE!

    Not one!

And what is saying the rosary do, anyway?

All it is is nothing but a series of repititious prayers.

What does The Bible say about repitious prayers?

    Luke 20:46-47 (New International Version)

46"Beware of the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted in the marketplaces and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. 47They devour widows' houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. Such men will be punished most severely."

Do we think that God is interested in just hearing the same prayer repeated over & over? What do catholics think that they are going to accomplish with this?

NO! Prayer should be spontaneous, unplanned & UNritualized, coming straight from the heart!

You want to know what true prayer is? Read the Psalms!

They are ALL prayers! Do you ever get the impression from the psalms that these were just methodical, written down prayers?

No, they are David & the other psalm writers heartfelt cries to God! There is no kind of ritual involved in them!

And what do we see about God when it comes to true prayer, & just about every other aspect of our relationship with Him?

1 Samuel 16:7 (New International Version)

    Source(s):

But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."

Does saying the rosary save anyone? NO.

Does saying the rosary do ANYTHING to make your requests be made known more effectivly to God?

No. It is nothing more than vain repitition.

I think you're asking if a damaged rosary loses its blessing. My guess is no.

Read Psalms 115. The rosary does nothing, its made by man. Pray to God, and put your trust solely on him. you don't need anything else.

A more important question would be, when you die will you go to heaven or hell? Not exactly sure. Find out.

    are you serious?

you are so concerned about beads that mean nothing,

your concern should be the condition of your soul.

those beads can't do anything for you,

Mary can't either, only Jesus can.
