I have a wireless gateway laptop. After downloading updates, I can not access the internet. It says "local only". I tried using the software for my router but still can not get on the internet

local only means that its connected to the router but its not really connected to the internet part if its completely connect it will say local and internet you ll hav to try to connect it though by click at where it says local only

On your wireless gateway the cable labeled WLAN is most likely hooked up to the LAN input on the router. Just switch the cable from LAN to WLAN and it should be fixed.

That basically means your computer is connecting to your router, but your router isn't connecting to the internet. Try turning the router off and on again, check the lights on the router too... You may need to contact your ISP.

restart the thing. thats what your supposed to do after any updates
if that dont work, go to device manager and roll back your wifi driver.
that dont work, system restore
