Ft Polk LA info please?

Where to start.

1. Fort polk is in the middle of a swamp

2. Post housing is pretty good there, the houses are large.

3. School are good on post

4. off post - you are in the middle of a swamp !!!!

Your talking 40 miles to the nearest Walmart

The town outside of the post, is a one blink town,

IE: if you blink, you will drive by it and miss it.

You have to drive about 40 miles to get to the closest med sized town.

IE: one with a walmart, small mall, restaurants, small air port.

Things might have changed a little, its been 10 years since I was there,

But I doubt its changed that much.

And im not lying about the swamp, when you drive into the area, swamp is on both sides the road.

wORST DUTY STATION IN THE ARMY iwas there with the 2nd ACR ive seen sergeants go awol from there off post is a small town a real dump Leesville, LA (a few thousand people) with a movie theatre, wal mart, hardware store and a bunch of strip clubs and pawn shops. No jobs for military spouses unless they strip and the some of the wives do. The post is in a hot humid bug infested swamp with few things to do. i was in the barracks so idont know about the on post housing. As far as the schools its Louisiana only Arkansas has worst education standards. look up pictures of Leesville on yahoo I am sorry you have to go there I was stationed there and I have never met anyone that likes at fort Polk try to get your orders changed to Lewis or Hood

You will be within an hour's drive of Shreveport/Bossier City and Natchitoches. I suspect these drives will become familiar to you.
