so over the years ive been told by bartenders and strangers alike that when my husband turned 21, even though im a year younger, i could go into a bar with him, but not drink. so long as were married. now i think its bullshit but i keep hearing different variations of it and i want to know the truth. can anyone who knows tell me whats really going on with that?

I live in Oregon but I have never heard of this rule.
However - I did find a web page that confirms it. It says in Oregon "Drinking Under Age 21 Permitted if Married and Spouse or Parent/Guardian Present " You can find that at: http://www2.potsdam.edu/hansondj/StateAndLocalLaws...
But that is NOT a state of Oregon website, that is a separate website that summarized drinking laws and they do NOT cite a reference to a real Oregon website or state what statute permits this.
I am sorry I do not have a definitive answer on this -it is pretty interesting. And what if you did try it - would you have your marriage license along with you to prove it? Just because you have the same last name doesn't mean you are married.
