Big Fix, do I need this on my computer?

my husband cleared everything out of my computer, and now "Big Fix" keeps popping up on the bottom tool bar I don't know if I am supposed to download it or just get rid of it. I have heard it can screw up your computer and that is the last thing I want to do. If I am supposed to get rid of it how do I do that?

Update:

If it wasn't for Answers I could never have got my computer back to normal, I am learning slowly but surely.

THANK YOU ALL!!!!!

i bet you have an emachines or a gateway. bigifx is just junk. uninstall it from the control panel , click on start>>control panel>>un install a program - find bigfix and click un install.

if that does not work, go to your computers hard drive and click on program files, it will probably look something like this "program files x86"

find the folder that contains bigfix and delete it

Uninstall it as you would any other program, or use the program from the link below. Go to control panel then add/remove programs and unistall it. The "updates" it downloads are not always the right ones and when it installs bad stuff your computer will crash. It happened on my mother in laws 2 day old computer. Such a pain lol! The program is a good idea but poorly made so its worthless. Its installed on computers as bloatware (akin to adware) this help lower the cost of computers by acting as adds in helps you will use it since it "came with the computer" and they also hope you will buy it.

New computers have tons of bloatware you can use this program to get rid of it

No, you really don't need it. Click start and click control panel. Go to Add/Remove Programs, or in Vista look for Programs And Features.

A window will open with all of your installed programs. Locate Bi Fix in the list and click uninstall.

Original concepts of 'Big fix' was to have a centralized spot for all kinds of updates & security related stuff, but it never really captured anyone's fancy, for several reasons.

Add-Remove> remove 'Big Fix' & all will be fine.

A much more reliable 'centralized' updater is 'Secunia':
