How do I get a comprehensive diagnosis (mental health)?
I know I have depression and anxiety and I have been to different therapists over the years who haven't been much help.
I actually saw a psychiatrist many years ago who diagnosed me with chronic depression but all she did was prescribe Paxil and send me to a therapist. Now my depression is worse than ever and I'm sure I also have (social) anxiety.
A year and a half ago I took my daughter to a mental health hospital for a diagnosis and all they did was have her fill out a questionnaire. How can I get a more comprehensive screening for myself? I don;t want to simply answer a few questions and then be sent on my way.
What can I do to get serious answers and real help?

I had the same problem 3 yrs ago. What my mother ended up having to do cuz i was too sick by then to do it myself was call the Director at the mental health center and tell her the history, which is about the same as what you're describing and demand I be seen. In 30 minutes a therapist called and I have been seeing her ever since.
It took me seeing 3 different therapist's there till I found the one I could work with. I didn't know then that I did have the right to change therapists until I found the right 'fit'.
Therapy has saved my life and if I hadn't found this woman I would be dead.
My suggestion is to contact the local mental health center where you live and schedule a screening and then make an appt. and keep going until you find the person that you know is going to be able to help you.
The only other option is to go to someone that is in practice for themselves and you're gonna pay and pay a lot for maybe 3 sessions.
Thru thre local center you do have to go thru the red tape but afterward that part is over and you don't have to go thru that again.
I see my therapist 1 or 2 times a week and the Psychiatrist 4 times a year for meds and check ups but can see her more if needed and that has happened.
Good luck and hope you get the help you need.

You have to confront the source of your anxiety. Be leave me I suffer from anxiety and panic attacks for 5 years until I discovered that I had the power to stop it. Go to the website in the resource box and Scroll down the page until you find this link"Wanting To Get Rid Of The 'Unreality' Feeling" and read and read until you find the answers you need. Hope this helps
PS. I too used all those nasty drugs that made my anxiety and my panic worst.
