How to spice up ramen? (Eggs? Other ideas?)?

I was talking with some of my friends and one of them mentioned that he likes to crack an egg into ramen when he makes it - apparently while the noodles cook. Says it's like egg drop soup. Now, I love ramen myself - and it's cheap as dirt - so I want to try this to add some variety to it. But I don't remember all the details and I don't think I can get ahold of him in time to ask - I wanna try this TONIGHT. SO: If I crack an egg into boiling water, how long must I wait until it is safe to eat? Is there anything else I can try to vary the flavor?

It would probably take about 3-4 min for your egg to cook, i like adding sauteed onions and tomatoes to my soup it gives it a really good flavor. there are so many things you could try. You could add hot sauce, add your own spices to it, everyone has there own way of making it so just play around with it till you find one that you love!

Just crack the egg in the boiling water with the noodles...it'll turn white when it's cooked thru...

I also add 2 slices of American Cheese and skip the egg and seasoning packet...cheap mac n cheese...add diced ham or Spam if you want.

I like to add cooked cubed chicken, thinly sliced deli ham, bean sprouts, sauteed red or green peppers, sauteed or canned sliced mushrooms, green onion, diced tomato cooked mixed veggies (corn, peas, carrots), grated cheese.

You'll definitely be able to see when it's done- you can see the strings and bits of it cook and solidify.

I like adding veggies (chopped carrots and and bean sprouts and onions or green onions, yum), a bit of spinach, soy sauce, mirin, sliced hard-boiled egg, meat or fish, cayenne pepper, curry powder . . . whatever strikes my fancy. Obviously not all at once.

    Tabasco sauce. so good! :)

Obviously, use as much as you can handle. i only use a few drops and can taste it.
