Gift question 'from' my dog.?
I have a chihuahua whom is a therapy dog (goes into nurseing homes, schools, hospitals ect). He has been a therapy dog for 4.5 years. We have visited the same nurseing home/assited living place for all five years. This place opened in November 4 yrs ago. and we started going December of that year. We go monthly.
In that time there has been one main older lady we have become very close to and she absolutely LOVES my chihuahua.
Unfortunately, I am moving 5 states away in less then 2 months. I would like to get her something to remember my boy by.
My question is what can i do or make (im crafty) to help ease her pain of us leaving. I have already told her we would be moving soon and she got very sad and cried. She just held onto my boy forever.
I plan on going on Wednesday to just visit her and not the rest of the residents and then we will visit one more time at our normal Oct. vist. with everyone there.
How can I ease her pain of loseing my boy. She has tons of pictures of him already. As i take in his xmas ones to her yearly. I do plan on getting profesional ones done once more before I leave and she will get a copy of that.
But what else is there I can help her?
Thank you all for the responces. This will be the one major person we visit that will be hard to leave. she is such a sweet lady an di hate to hurt her.
I will look into all of the suggestions!!
thank you so much

Make her a stuffed animal Chi, that resembles your boy.

Try to see if you can arrange for someone to takeover your good will, by introducing your friend to a new therapy dog now. Maybe bring your dog, and the new dog in together. Tell your friend that the new dog is going to be her new buddy, and watch her form a bond with this dog before you leave. Hopefully that will ease her pain, and make you both feel better. It's a beautiful thing you do. I commend you. Good luck on your move.

I like the paw-cast idea - you can even set some baubles around the imprint. How about a dvd/video of the two of them together?
Have you, by chance, saved any of his fur? There is a craftwork called needling (or needle felting) and you could add some of his fur. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcfbgtyrz2U I know someone who has done this with dog fur or a combo of fur plus wool... she makes this into dog shapes: http://www.kaysk9s.com/ (take a look at her gallery)

I like the paw cast idea too. You could also get her a tea cup with a picture and his name on it. I think Walgreen's can make those for you for a reasonable price. They also make calenders that you can put the dogs pictures on for each month

I had a friend who was in a similar situation. She made a miniature version of her Bichon. It wasn't exact or anything but I know it helped. :)
