I know it was on since 1952 but my Girlfriend who adored show wants to know why it went off the air?

low ratings = less advertising revenue.

It has continually been at the bottom of dayitme ratings for the past several years. CBS has other soaps that are doing better. Other networks had the option to pick up the show (like SoapNet, Hallmark and Lifetime) but the latter two did not want to venture into a new genre, especially soaps since it is a dying genre, sadly). No idea why SoapNet didn't want to pick it up. It could have something to do with the soap "Passions." When it was canceled, DirectTV picked it up and the ratings remained terrible, so they soon canceled it too.

Although I hadn't watched it in years, I used to be a faithful viewer and still have fond memories of old actors. I even remember my mother watching it for 15 minutes each day. I guess the soap opera venue is going the way of the western. Can't imagine what they'll put on in its place. Just fewer viewers and fewer sponsors.

The ratings weren't doing as well as they had been previously so CBS decided to cancel it.
