When politicians maneuver us into a war, one of the reasons is to increase their power. Why would they relinquish that power?
Politicians in general, are lying sacks of excrement, as well as criminals. They don't follow the Supreme Law of the Land. My question is, why are people so stupid as to allow them to get away with this time after time?

What one administration can change another can change back, although they rarely relinquish anything significant. As James Madison once pointed out, "It is a universal truth that the loss of liberty at home is to be charged to the provision against danger, real or imagined, from abroad". With the "War on Terror" Bush a declared a war that would never end, how can you ever shoot people into not wanting to shoot back? A war that never ends means war powers that never end either.

They've found a way around that now by declaring perpetual phony wars.
War on drugs
War on crime
War on poverty (get the picture?)...
that they've no intention of winning, because that would mean the end.
With the end comes the relinquishment of emergency powers, emergency taxes, curfews, censorship, travel, rationing on & on.
Tough question to answer with a Yes/No.

It does so only very reluctantly and only when the people stand up and demand it loudly enough to be heard. The state never willingly does so. It is far better to not give them that power to begin with.

The government has never given up power once it has taken it. I take that back. Prohibition is the only thing they took back. lol

At various points in time, the government has nationalized railroads, communications, coal, steel, weapons manufacturing, and other industries. This has always been reversed after the war.
