There is so much to do in Brisbane and the south east Queensland area.

    Brisbane

Go on the City Cats. They go upstream as far as the University of Queensland and downstream as far as Brett's Wharf (Hamilton) and goes through the City (CBD) and Southbank. The entire round trip takes about 2 hours not including any stops.

The Southbank area is good. Southbank Parkland (known as Southbank) itself is an outdoor area with a beach and swimming area, outdoor areas, playgrounds, bike / blading / walking path(s), restaurants / cafes / eateries etc. The Maritime Museum is at one end near the Goodwill Bridge which connects to QUT and the Botanical Gardens. At the other end is the "Cultural Centre" including the Queensland Performing Arts Complex (QPAC), Queensland Museum and Sciencentre, Qld Library, Qld Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA). Southbank has markets on the weekends.

West End just beyond Southbank has markets too and some great eating places...

The Botanical Gardens in the CBD are a pleasant park area. Also try the botanical gardens at Mt Coot-tha (and the lookout above), Roma St Parklands, New Farm Park and many other parks in and around Brisbane...

Try some of the bayside suburbs like Redcliffe, Redlands and islands such as Stradbroke. Some of them are pleasant at least for morning / afternoon tea or lunch...

    Gold Coast (south of Brisbane)

Surfers Paradise is the most well know beach but try further south too at beaches like Burleigh Heads (lovely park here too) ot Tallebudgera or Currumbin.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary has indigenous species such as koalas and kangaroos.

The three Worlds and other parks. Sea World, Movie World, Dream World, Wet 'n' Wild etc.

    Behind the Coast

Try Mt Tamborine which has a lot of art galleries and cafe's and things like that

Lamington National Park is lovely, I prefer O'Reilly's personally but Binna Burra is equally as good.

    Sunshine Coast

Try any of the beaches. Kings Beach has a rock pool if you're not a beach swimmer.

    Glass House Mountains are great.

Australia Zoo (Steve Irwin's place) and Underwater World may be worth a visit.

Try places like Maleny and Montville for some nice villagey artsy places...

Consider places further afield such as Fraser Island and down around Byron Bay (and Mt Warning) or going out to a B&B out west or he wineries out toward Stanthorpe.

Some internet sites which should get you started...

Jennifer H gave some good tips. I would visit Queen Street Mall - it's in the City, and full of shops, and many things to see and do. Milton is fun, there are quaint urban neighborhoods nearby, or a short bus ride away. Surfer's Paradise nearby with lots to do there. Bike riding is fun there as well. Also, the Brisbane Zoo is awseome. I love Fortitude Valley with farmer's markets, shops, restaurants. It's part of Brisbane. Just ask people there - they're so friendly and very helpful. Enjoy yourself.

You have to go to a West End coffee shop or two. There is a dance school there that teaches Salsa. http://www.riorhythmics.com.au/Site/100694.asp?a=a

You can go to QUT and see Old Government House http://www.ogh.qut.edu.au/ Closed on saturday.

I used to roller blade along South Bank and around the corner along the river at South Brisbane.

Go to the Queensland Museum, Library and GoMA.

Check out the Brisbane City Library.

Then head off to the beach at Surfers Paradise. lol

We went to Brissy and enjoyed it. could see sights incorporate Southbank with its swimming pools and humanities way of existence, the Queen highway Mall, the botanical gardens alongside the river, Chinatown and Fortitude Valley for the ambience, the Mount Coot-tha lookout for the perspectives, and likewise determine you seize an afternoon bypass to apply on the ferries alongside the river. they're a competent thank you to get a competent sense for the city, airborne dirt and dust low-value and straightforward to apply. end at Eagle highway Pier for a chew to consume at between the eating places. in case you have time, determine you make a journey the two up the coast to the gentle Coast or all the way down to the Gold Coast. i'd propose Noosa or close by cities on the S.C. with the aid of fact i did no longer think of lots of the G.C. - too busy. Noosa's have been given some wonderful places to stay and a few great eating places. Get directly to between the great actual property companies for trip condo lodging.
