How much is a camera going to cost me?

I would say i am reaching a level of Intermediate, and want a camera that will help me develop my skills. I like doing modern close ups of nature and my main focus will be on Nature. I will be doing other photos.

I preferabbly want a full optical zoom.

In the most recent Consumer Reports lab tests (September 2009 issue), the best camera in the list is the Canon PowerShot SX10 IS, with 10 megapixels, 20X optical zoom, 600-shot battery life, excellent versatility and dynamic range, optical image stabilizer, wide-angle capability, and manual controls (along with the automatic ones). It lists for $380. It is one of the heavier cameras at a weight of 24 ounces. Try to get a copy of this CR issue, or check at your local library, for all the info on the 17 cameras listed in the "superzoom" category.
