Should I take this job?
Basically I work as a web developer in Minneapolis, MN and make around 40k a year. I love the region, and don't hate my job. A recent offer has arose where I could move to Chicago for about 50k a year and the position would be more so towards where I would like to work in my career. The draw backs are that I will be working in house at a large company, I do not enjoy the region nearly as much, and I will be quite farther away from family with my nearest friend being 30 miles away in Chicago...
Part of me says take it for the opportunity to grow in my field, the other have says to not take it being I am about 80% sure I will not enjoy the location nearly as much. I am just looking for advice or what others would do. Right now both choices are sitting way to level in my mind and trying to make one win. Thank you!
Just had my first phone interview with them. Looks like they will have some really sweet benefits, pay for my move, and they said that they will not let salary be what keeps me from moving...
Now I just have to determine if I want to live in Chicago... :(

Well, I think that when you're happy in your environment you're more productive and actually enjoy your work. As oppose to when you're not, then you will become less productive and find it hard to go to work. I think that when you're in an environment that you like, you will allow yourself to grow and expand career wise (being, there are opportunities to do so). Also, there are times where your views about a place can change with experience. It just comes down to prioritizing and deciding what you're willing to live with, or without.

at the end of day, it is your own personal decision
for me, i probably wont go, because (a) it takes me away from my family and friends and therefore could be lonely in evenigs, weekends and holidays, (b) the additional $10,000 in pay can easily be offset by higher cost of living in chicago in rent, food and transportation, not to mention that you need to fly back to your hometown periodcaly.
dont get me wrong, if u are a workaholic, and agressive, and did well from an ivy leaque university, chicago may give you more job opportunities than Minneapolis. If u graduated from a MN unievrsity, you may not be treated as precious as those grads from chicago U.

I always believe you should go with your heart! You seem to be focused on the business aspect of the move, what does your heart tell you?
