1953 Pontiac Chieftain restoration help!?
I am restoring a 1953 Cheiftan. First I need help finding parts. What would be the best site to look for parts? Autozone and stores like that pretty much carry nothing for this car. Second, the car won't run. The only way I can make it run is to run a wire from the positive part of the battery to the ignition coil. I Changed the coil, I changed the wire running from the ingition switch to the positive part of the coil. I changed the battery cables, bought a new battery. What would cause it to die when I remove that wire from the battery? Help me!!

For parts and info, go to a good bookstore and buy a copy of Hemmings Motor News. Its the old car hobby bible. You'll find it in the magazine area. Order online from hemmings.com
As for your wiring problems, there are books on automotive wiring or you could take the car to an auto electrician. The electrical system in that car is very simple so it should not be hard to fix.

Use a meter and figure out where your switched wire loses power. It has to be the wiring or a bad resistor, not the coil.
