Can my dog be affected by rat poison in dead rat?
I recently put out rat poison and I discovered a dead rat today that my dog seems to have gotten to before I did. She seems fine, but it panting very harder than usual. Could the poison hurt my dog?

****UPDATE**** We went to my neighbors who raises hunting dogs and he said it has happened to one of his before, and to give her milk, as much as she can drink. We are taking care of her now.
We threw out the poison btw, it was out of reach but we never thought about the dog actually getting the rat. She did not eat the rat just picked at it.

yes and your dog needs a vet now!

Yes. Her panting harder is the beginning of her dying. Get her to a vet or emergency vet NOW! Death will come slow, and she will have internal bleeding and bleed to death.
From here on out, no more putting out poison. Put rat traps where the dog can't get to them. That way, it the dog eats the rat, it won't harm her.
My parents brought their dog for a visit..I lived 1500 miles away at the time. My husband had set out rat poison a week or two earlier that we forgot about. Well, their dog found it. But my sister in law heard her crunching something, and we phoned the emergency vet. We had her vomiting(a good thing), within minutes. We didn't wait at all. When it's caught within minutes, the dog will be just fine..usually. When you wait, it probably won't be just fine.
I forgot to mention we didn't have any animals at that time, so leaving rat poison or other poisons out wasn't a concern to us.

Yes, ingesting a poisoned rat will KILL your dog.
Your dog needs to be taken to the vet right now and started on therapy.
If you delay treatment you will have a dead dog.
UPDATE: You are going to have a dead dog if you think milk is going to cure it. Your dog needs SEVERAL injections of Vitamin K from a veterinarian.
GET YOUR DOG TO A VET NOW or he will die.
