What is considered "several hours" of fasting for a blood test?

    Assuming you're having the test done first thing in the morning - nothing after midnight.

    It depends on the blood test.

    Usually it will say.

    Cholesterol tests I have gone for were for a 12 hour fast.

    Other tests (not cholesterol) I have gone for were only 6 or 9 hours.

    Call your doctor or the lab you are going to go to for the blood draw and ask them.
