Is Baucus just a complete moron?

Why would he rather just pass a bill, than pass a bill that actually meant something?

Rockefeller's bill was fiscally responsible.

And why are GOPers condemning government run programs, while praising Medicare? I mean, if they are really against government options, shouldn't they be leading the charge to eliminate Medicare?

Update:

El Tecolote: I really wish your story was believable. $3,000 in property? Was that in 1965? A square acre of land in the everglades goes for $3,000. Cmon now, stop re-printing those emails you get from people.

Besides, you didn;t even answer the question.

Update 2:

JP - well you didn't read it from me, and irregardless, you failed to answer my question.

They are all afraid of Cheney and Cheney told them NOT to pass it, THAT IS THE REAL REASON.

We will pass it WITH a public option.

I don't know why the Left is crying so much. You own the White House and both houses of Congress. I read here that the Republican Party was dead and/or irrelevant about 20 times a day for the first 6 months following the election. If you can't get a bill passed, don't blame the Republicans. It's your moment in the sun. Take some ownership.

I think El Tecolote is talking about Medicaid not Medicare.

Yes and so are most of the others on the finance committee.

Chuck Grassley is even dumber than Baucus. Read some of his posts on Twitter. Seriously, he's a illiterate dingbat.

    Praising Medicare? LOL

Let me tell you my grandmother's story. She died in a rest home after lying in it for 10 years. Well, during those 10 years, and for the 40 years prior, she paid into Medicare because she and my grandfather were self-employed ranchers. After we sold off most of the ranch, and she ended up in the rest home, her foreman continued to run a few head of cattle on what was left just to give her enough money to pay the rest home bill.

Well, Bob got old and couldn't really run his own ranch and hers as well, so he stopped. We all understood that.

My mom went down to sign Grandma up for Medicare. Get this - she didn't qualify because she owned more than $3,000 in property. We couldn't sign it over to ourselves because that was considered fraudulent, we couldn't sell it in time and we couldn't buy it from her because we didn't have the money. None of us did.

They were going to kick her out of the rest home. What did they want her to do, an 89-year-old woman with dementia and breast cancer, get out of bed, get on a horse and start rounding up cattle? Luckily for her, she died before she went too far into arrears on the rest home bill.

The government took my grandmother's money from her in the form of tax garnishment and gave it to people who didn't to sh!t for it. They wouldn't even give her own money back to her when she needed it. They might as well have held her up at gunpoint and robbed her.

Take your Medicare and SHOVE IT.

EDIT: Not 1965 - 1999. And not Medicaid. Medicare. I'm sorry if you guys don't like the truth, but the truth is the truth and your denial of it won't make it go away. When you experience it for yourself, you're going to remember this answer.

Heck, he proposed taxes, then announced he would lower the tax he proposed and wanted a pat on the back for it!
