primestyle.com, I know a girl who has a ring from that site, and it's gorgeous!!!
Don't listen to that first girl, butterfly, she is just plain rude!!!
I don't judge how much my fiance loves me by the size of the diamond. I would rather have the money go towards the down payment on our house rather than my finger. He loves me the same if he gives me a $100 or a $10,000 ring.
So anyways, there are lots of options online, also, Ben Moss has beautiful rings, and you can get a very nice one in your budget range.
Good luck and have fun picking!! :)

Thailand or go work for a jewelry store (huge discounts!)
Also every state has auctions for items that were confiscated from busts. That is a really good way to get loose diamonds or in a setting. You can always have it taken out of the mounting and put it in one you like. It's not as sketchy as it sounds. There are a lot of people that attend these and there are many more items including cars, paintings ect...
Jewelry stores do big mark ups so you are really better going another route but if you want it from a store wait until Christmas or Valentines. That is when most of the sales happen. You can also ask when the next diamond show will be held. They usually know a couple months in advance. Diamond dealers come to their store and have a lot of loose stones as well as a person on site to put it in a mounting.
Edit: Sara - I have worked the jewelry business and I can honestly say that commissions are next to nothing. The sales people there do not care about the commission. They have quotas that they are supposed to reach every month but the average commission is 2%........not much at all.

Definitely check out Kay Jewelers. You can find some very nice rings for that amount of money.
Ignore those telling you you have to spend more than that. You need to keep your budget in mind and know that with an engagement ring comes a wedding... You don't want to blow all your money on the engagement ring and then have nothing left for the bands, the wedding and the honeymoon. Not to mention the start up costs of being married!
Personally, I don't want anything more than $1200 because we are saving up for a house and I know my car is going to need replacing in the next few years.... You need to keep those things in mind when making such large purchases.
Good luck and congratulations!

you can get a REALLY nice ring for $1200 and lower. if i were you i would google your local jewelry stores and find out which stores DO NOT pay their employees commission. this will ensure that you get the service you want without being hassled into spending your cap price of $1200. if you see a ring you love that is say, $800 you will not be pushed into buying the $1200 by someone who is payed hourly rather than commission.
if you have a shane company jewelry store in your area you should go there. they are never paid on commission and they have great diamonds and life-time warrantes. remember that you don't have to spend a fortune on an engagement ring- unless your girlfriend is super shallow, it won't matter how big the diamond is, what's really important is what it means. congrats and good luck in your search :)

Totally understand, have you tried gems tv? 2 months salary is ridiculous, any financial advisor will tell you that anything exceeding 5 percent salary (roughly 3 weeks salary) is not a smart decision. I looked at gems tv and there are some things ceylon sapphire 7x5 oval y. gold 398 and another for 445 morganite this one is really cool but it is a bit big 10x8 cushion halo setting, rose gold 315 6mm bezel round y. gold 88 9x7 oval, w. gold 135 aquamarine there are a few choices tsavorite 6x4 y. gold 101 sky blue topaz 9mm square 110, y. gold iolite 6x4 w. gold emerald shape 69 7x5 oval 72 8x5 pear 69

Jewelryexchange.com-has beautiful affordable rings that any woman would love! And they have several store locations you can go to after you pick out a ring to see it in person!
Good Luck
* I'm pretty sure she won't care how much you spent on the ring-just that you want to spend your life with her! If she hates the ring you can always get her a bigger stone later on down the road.

hoping to not sound like butterfly, but you want to make sure that you get a good quality diamond with a good rating. I did not request or demand my finr, but I know that my diamond is of the highest quality and is fully insured and will be replaced if damaged or lost. You may be able to buy a ring from many of the places mentioned, but if you don't buy from a reputable jeweler you probably won't get a good quality stone and you probably won't be able to get it replaced. Also, I have twice yearly maintence on my ring, I don't know that the department stores offer that.

I wouldn't want my future fiance to spend any more than 1200. You can find a beautiful ring for that and focus the big bucks on more important life decisions like buying a house and having children!!!
Women who demand more than that are shallow.

You could try Kays, Walmart, overstock.com, a local pawn shop, craigslist, or any department store. You could also google engagement rings and possibly create your own, I looked at how much mine would have been if we would have created it, and it would have been a little cheaper that way than a jewelry store.

You would be amazed that the major department stores have good prices because of the volume that they buy. Try Macy's or similar types of stores.
Do not spend more than you are able to. Starting married life with a large debt that you incurred for pride is not a good idea.
