Dr. saying blood tests are just like urine tests!?
I went to the doctor to have a blood pregnancy test and he asked if I've done any home pregnancy urine tests and I said that I have twice and both have been negative. He said that he has never done a blood pregnancy test in the clinic and whoever that needs a pregnancy test they do a urine one....now i've heard that urine tests can be wrong but blood tests are always accurate but he said that's just what people say...im confused now to believe him or not. I haven't missed a period or anything but was just being paranoid so I thought I go check. I have done 2 tests that have been negative.
I don't know whether to be sure of what he said or not..what do you think??

Here's the thing with blood vs urine. A quantitative blood test can detect hcg levels below what any urine test can detect. This is why people say that a blood test is more "accurate." Actually, it's not more accurate, it's more sensitive. If you have taken two urine pregnancy tests at home and they are negative then you are either not pregnant or you haven't waited long enough after conception for there to be enough hcg in your urine. Most HPT's are sensitive enough to pick up hcg at the level where it would be the day you miss your period. If you are late for your period and are getting negative HPT's, you are most likely not pregnant. You should wait a few more days, retest with an HPT, and if it's negative - that's it. It's negative.

My Dr also told me that if a urine test says no, so will the blood test. I have taken a few blood tests and they always have the same outcome of the urine tests. So just take the urine test, if you haven't missed a period yet, it's probably too early anyways.

Urine tests might take a few days longer to show a positive, but they are just as accurate as blood tests.

If you take a home pregnancy test at the right time (meaning, waiting until at least a week after your missed period) they are almost always correct, unless the test has been damaged somehow. That's why even docs rely on HPT's.

Blood tests are ALWAYS more accurate, they tell you the exact amount of HCG(pregnancy hormone levels) in your body. You can get an actualy number. Urine tests just tell you whether or not there is HCG in your system.
